The red team won 4-1 and the blue team won 9-1! We enjoyed drinks and biscuits after the games with our hosts - a fantastic afternoon was had by all.

World Book Day

Well done to Year 6 on your efforts to dress up for World Book Day. Lots of excellent story boxes were also brought in. We took part in lots of different reading activities throughout the week, including our ‘Drop Everything And Read’ day, where we took some time to read whenever the bell rang!

They reached the quarter finals of the Appleyard Shield - eventually losing to Richard Alibon Primary. They have also been playing their 7-a-side league games - winning 3 and drawing 1 - which means they have qualified top of the group and go forward to the Super 6 group. This is the top 6 teams in the borough so a huge achievement from our girls!

The Year 6 Boys’ football team have been taking part in the Barking and Dagenham Post Cup this year. Two victories from 3 over Henry Green Primary and Eastbury Primary we’re enough to see us qualify for the knockout stages. Well done boys!

This week, Year 6 performed their production for the Year 5 class and some of the staff. We have been practising for quite a few weeks and the performance was worth the wait! It was a brilliant performance and all the children should be very proud of themselves. Here are a few photos of the performance and the full video will be posted on Google Classroom in a few days time so you can all watch it at home!

Hello Year 6 and parents! What a year this has been! I cannot believe this is our last day together. You have been such a wonderful class to teach and I am so proud of each and every one of you. I want to say a huge thank your to all of your parents for their support and very generous gifts over the last few days - they were so thoughtful. Remember as you move to your new schools to continue to be the best that you can be and I know you will achieve great things in the future. See you all on the 10th of October for our celebration day and have a wonderful summer holiday! Mr Kavanagh

World Book Day!

I was so impressed with the costumes on show in Year 6 for World Book Day! They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into their costumes. We had a lovely day in school with lots of reading activities. All of Year 6 partnered up with children from Reception to read to them in the afternoon too. A special congratulations to Jessica and Uzoma who won ‘Best Costume’ on the day and to Amelia who won the ‘Extreme Reading’ photo competition.

World of Work Week

Year 6 have had many visitors over the past week. They have been learning about how businesses work and even came up with their own products. They had to write business plans, design their products, use their maths skills to work out how much profit they could make and plan a group presentation. The week finished with Year 6 presenting their products to a panel of ‘Dragons’ - who were employees of an international company - in the style of the tv programme, Dragon’s Den. I was so impressed with each group’s presentation and it must have been very difficult for the dragons to pick winning teams!

Trip to Museum of London, Docklands

Last week, Year 6 took the tube to visit the Museum of London, Docklands. As we are are working on our World War 2 English topic in class, this was a great opportunity to explore the WW2 exhibit at the museum and look at a range of artefacts that were used at the time. A big thank you to Jessica’s mum, Mrs Shirley and Ms Ade for accompanying us on our trip!

The Year 6 football team played their first game of the year this week against Gascoigne Primary in the Barking & Dagenham Post Cup. For many of the team, it was their first time playing a competitive football match. We lost the game 6-1, with Breanna scoring our goal, but as the game progressed, I could see a real improvement in our general play. Well done Year 6 and I look forward to our next game.

Sportshall Athletics

Children from Year 5&6 took part in the annual Sportshall Athletics competition this week at Sydney Russell Secondary School. They took part in a range of events like relays, long jump, javelin and speed bounce. The team finished in 4th place out of the 10 schools there on the day and we had some fantastic performances, especially in the jumping and throwing events.

Year 5&6 Girls’ Football

The Year 5/6 girls’ football team played their first ever game this week in the Monteagle Shield. For all of the girls, it was their first ever football match. We played against an experienced Valence team. Daniella opened the scoring with a well-taken goal before Valence began their comeback. Their district player scored 5 goals before Breanna finished off an excellent move to the back of the net. The game finished 7-2 but I was so impressed with our girls’ determination, effort and skill throughout the match. Well done to the whole team!

Show Racism the Red Card

This week, we had a special visit from Leroy Rosenior MBE along with players and coaches from West Ham United Football Club. Year 5&6 both completed workshops and lessons and finished the day with a fantastic  assembly. They learned how to identify racist incidents and deal with them in a variety of circumstances. They listened to Leroy as he told them of incidents that had happened to him as a player. It was an extremely informative day and all the children learned some valuable lessons. A huge thank you to Leroy and the West Ham boys for visiting our school - it will be a day we will all remember for some time!

Year 6 Class Assembly

Year 6 performed their class assembly for the whole school last week. They organised and wrote the assembly themselves. They spoke with confidence, giving the school details about our recent trip to Kingswood as well as performing a beautiful version of World in Union to finish the assembly.

4v4 Basketball

Our Year 5&6 basketball team took part in the borough’s annual 4v4 basketball tournament today. We had 3 teams representing St Teresa’s. Each team played 3 games in the group stages and , amazingly, all teams won each of their group games which meant that they all qualified as group winners. St Teresa Hammers had to play a playoff game to get into the semi finals - which was a very close game against Valence. It ended in a draw and went to extra time, which Valence won by one basket. St Teresa Blues played a very competitive game against Grafton in their semi final, eventually losing by 2 baskets. And finally, St Teresa Sparks got all the way to the final where they played superbly, beating Grafton and claiming the gold medals! Well done to all our teams - especially those who represented St Teresa’s for the first time today!

Kingswood 2019

What a wonderful week we had at Kingswood this week! The weather may not have always been perfect but Year 6 completed each activity to the best of their abilities, full of determination and with a great attitude. I really enjoyed their company and it was lovely to see their personalities shine outside of the school environment. On the ferry home, a fellow passenger remarked to me that the children with me were lovely children and so well-behaved and mannerly. This was lovely to hear but also very true. Well done Year 6! A special thank you must go to Mrs Shirley and Mrs Clark for accompanying us this year! I hope you all enjoy the half term - here are the full set of photos from the week.

London Youth Games Basketball Silver Medalists!!

What a fantastic day we had at the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace this week! Having won the Barking & Dagenham basketball finals a few weeks ago, our Year 6 team got the opportunity to represent the borough at the London Youth Games against the winners of all the other 32 London boroughs. We had 3 group games against Islington, Kensington & Chelsea and Havering and we won all three (scoring 27 points in total and only conceding 6) which meant we qualified for the quarter finals as group winners. We played Bromley in the quarters, winning 12-6 and Harrow in the semifinals winning a great battle 8-4. This meant that we faced an excellent Richmond side in the final and, after a very tense 10 minutes and being level twice, we eventually lost 8-4. A huge achievement to come away with the silver medals. Congratulations to Patricia, Cecilia, Dionte, Nathan, Andre & Joshua! We are all very proud of you!

3v3 Basketball Finals

Our 3 basketball teams took part in the borough finals today at Eastbury Comprehensive. There were 12 teams taking part that had qualified from the first round and it was already a fantastic achievement to have qualified for these finals. Each team played multiple games today and had many great victories over some excellent teams and, after two fantastic wins in the semi finals, two of our teams battled it out in the final! The victory went to the St Teresa Blues in the end but what an amazing day it was for all of our teams! Barking & Dagenham Tennis Tournament

The Year 6 tennis team of Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis took part in the annual tennis competition at Riverside School today. They played against George Carey, Beam and Rush Green in the group stages and qualified as group winners. They faced Ripple Primary in the final and won 3 games to 1! This is the first time St Teresa’s has ever won a tennis tournament and it means that they will now go on to represent Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Redbridge Sports Centre at the end of June. Well done Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis!

On Thursday, our basketball teams took part in the qualifying round of the borough’s 3v3 basketball competition at Eastbury Comprehensive. We then played a very tight semi final against St Joseph’s Dagenham which we won 2-1. The final against William Bellamy was a very tense game with one try from our opponents proving to be the vital score. I was so impressed with our teamwork, communication and skill today and we were very pleased to come away with silver medals!

I was very impressed by all the children’s costumes today! Well done to Michael and Julia who won best costume after a class vote and to Sandra who won our Extreme Reading competition. Thank you to Mrs Attard also who came to read us a story in class.

The Year 6 girls’ team played their quarter final of the Monteagle Shield this afternoon against Gascoigne Primary. Today, they had fantastic wins against Hackney and Kingston before a 1-basket defeat to a tough team from Croydon. That one basket proved crucial as it meant we finished in 9th place overall - just missing out on a place in the quarter finals. I was very proud of our team and throughout the day, they showed fantastic skill, determination and teamwork - and were wonderful ambassadors for our school! Well done Lukas, Gabriel, Verity, Julius, Miracle and Jermaine!

Last Thursday, the Year 6 tag rugby team travelled to Crystal Palace to represent Barking and Dagenham at the London Youth Games. This was the first time our school had ever qualified for this tournament in tag rugby! We played against 9 other boroughs over the course of the day and beat teams representing Bexley, Harrow, Newham, Merton, Croydon and Enfield. Unfortunately, we were beaten by Houndslow, who went on to win the gold medal, in the penultimate round. We finished the day in 5th place overall out of the 32 boroughs competing which was an incredible result for our little school. Year 6 showed great communication, attitude and skill throughout the day and I was extremely proud of their achievement. Well done Tia, Verity, Katie, Chioma, Lukas, Julius, Gabriel, Damani, Jermaine and Saleem!

The final against George Carey Primary was our toughest game of the day and it finished 1-1. Extra time and golden-try loomed and after what seemed like an eternity, we scored the winning try. I was so proud of the team’s attitude, hard work and skillful play and they were a credit to our school. We now look forward to representing Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace next week!

4v4 Basketball Competition - November 2017

Barking and Dagenham’s first basketball competition of the year took place this week at Eastbury Comprehensive. St Teresa’s entered 3 teams and did lots of training and practice in the last few weeks. All our teams played superbly in their group games with two of the teams qualifying for the quarter finals as group winners. Both teams then went on to win their quarter finals and amazingly/unfortunately they were drawn to play against each other in the semi finals. They played out a great game with the ‘Hammers’ beating the ‘Blues’ by two baskets. This meant that the Hammers went through to the final while the Blues played for the bronze medal. In a brilliant final, St Teresa’s Hammers beat Northbury 4-0 to claim the gold medal while St Teresa’s Blues drew their game to share the bronze medal with Richard Alibon. Well done to all of our children!! To come away from a 23-team tournament with the gold and bronze medals is a huge achievement!

What a great week Year 6 had at Kingswood! They had the opportunity to try a wide range of activities and they each had a real sense of achievement once they reached the targets they set for themselves. I was very proud of their attitude throughout the week and many of the Kingswood staff remarked on their lovely manners. I would like to thank Miss Callendar and Mrs Shirley for accompanying us on the trip and for helping to make the trip a memorable one for the children. This week, the St Teresa's basketball team travelled to the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace to take part in the London Youth Games. All of the borough champions from across London were in attendance (31 in total) and we were excited but nervous about what the day had in store for us. Our group games were against the champions of Havering, Merton and Kensington & Chelsea and we won those three games 12-4, 12-4 and 16-2. This meant that we had qualified for the quarter finals and we knew the games would get even harder. Our quarter final was against Bexley, which we won 14-6. Our semi-final against Hounslow was an extremely tough game. It finished 12-12 after normal time which meant extra time. The rule was that whichever team scored first would be the winner. It was extremely tense and after a good number of passes between Jayden and Gabrielle, Sampson got the ball and scored to put us in the final! At this stage, all the children had given their all and were extremely tired but they only had a few minutes to recover before the final. Islington were our opponents for the final and we knew we had to be at our best to beat them. It was neck and neck throughout the game and the score was 10-10 with 3 minutes to go. A super pass from Matt to Sampson led to the final score of the game and it finished 14-10. St Teresa's were the champions of London! All 6 children played exceptionally throughout the day and their superb attitude and teamwork meant they came home with gold medals around their neck. Well done Jordan, Sampson, Olivia, Matt, Gabrielle and Jayden!! What an incredible achievement!

June 2017: Sporting Success!

Over the past number of weeks, we have had some great sporting successes. We won the Barking & Dagenham 3v3 basketball tournament (out of 43 teams!) and as a result, we will be representing Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games in Crystal Palace at the start of July. This is only the second time ever that we have won this competition so a huge congratulations to all the children involved! We also attended the Quad Kids Athletics tournament and we had some fantastic individual wins along with a relay triumph for the Year 6 team!

I hope everyone has an enjoyable and restful Easter break. Here are the answers to your Easter maths challenge booklets.

March 2017

This week, Year 6 travelled to St Chad's Park in Chadwell Heath to take part in a tree planting workshop. They ended up planting 119 apple, cherry and prickly pear trees. Have a look at the photos...

World Book Day was a great success this year. Year 6 enjoyed dressing up or coming to school in their pyjamas. Have a look at some of the photos of our reading session with Reception on World Book Day.

November 2016

Our Year 5 & 6 basketball team competed at the Barking and Dagenham 4v4 championships last week. Our 3 teams played their group games against various other schools with only the 4 group winners out of 20 teams advancing to the finals in January.

Amazingly, two of our teams won all their games and  progressed to the finals against all the other group winners in January. The children did themselves, their families and their school proud with their play and their attitude. We're now looking forward to the finals!

Kingswood

We had a wonderful week at Kingswood last week. We received so many compliments about the children and their behaviour throughout the week - they should be very proud of themselves! A huge thank you to Mrs Hanrahan and Mrs Jannece for accompanying myself and Year 6 on the trip. Here are some photos of the final two days of Kingswood 2016!

Before Christmas, Jessica, Sabrina, Joel and Joshua represented our school at the Young Mathematician's Awards. They beat lots of other local schools and progressed to the regional round against schools from all over Essex. They were presented with medals and certificates in a special assembly last week. Well done boys and girls!
