The red team won 4-1 and the blue team won 9-1! We enjoyed drinks and biscuits after the games with our hosts - a fantastic afternoon was had by all.

This is the top 6 teams in the borough so a huge achievement from our girls!

Hello Year 6 and parents! What a year this has been! I cannot believe this is our last day together. You have been such a wonderful class to teach and I am so proud of each and every one of you. I want to say a huge thank your to all of your parents for their support and very generous gifts over the last few days - they were so thoughtful. Remember as you move to your new schools to continue to be the best that you can be and I know you will achieve great things in the future. See you all on the 10th of October for our celebration day and have a wonderful summer holiday! Mr Kavanagh

World Book Day!

I was so impressed with the costumes on show in Year 6 for World Book Day! They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into their costumes. We had a lovely day in school with lots of reading activities. All of Year 6 partnered up with children from Reception to read to them in the afternoon too. A special congratulations to Jessica and Uzoma who won ‘Best Costume’ on the day and to Amelia who won the ‘Extreme Reading’ photo competition.

World of Work Week

Year 6 have had many visitors over the past week. They have been learning about how businesses work and even came up with their own products. They had to write business plans, design their products, use their maths skills to work out how much profit they could make and plan a group presentation. The week finished with Year 6 presenting their products to a panel of ‘Dragons’ - who were employees of an international company - in the style of the tv programme, Dragon’s Den. I was so impressed with each group’s presentation and it must have been very difficult for the dragons to pick winning teams!

Last week, Year 6 took the tube to visit the Museum of London, Docklands. As we are are working on our World War 2 English topic in class, this was a great opportunity to explore the WW2 exhibit at the museum and look at a range of artefacts that were used at the time. For many of the team, it was their first time playing a competitive football match. Children from Year 5&6 took part in the annual Sportshall Athletics competition this week at Sydney Russell Secondary School. They took part in a range of events like relays, long jump, javelin and speed bounce. Year 5&6 Girls’ Football

The Year 5/6 girls’ football team played their first ever game this week in the Monteagle Shield. For all of the girls, it was their first ever football match. We played against an experienced Valence team. Daniella opened the scoring with a well-taken goal before Valence began their comeback. Their district player scored 5 goals before Breanna finished off an excellent move to the back of the net. The game finished 7-2 but I was so impressed with our girls’ determination, effort and skill throughout the match. Well done to the whole team!

Show Racism the Red Card

This week, we had a special visit from Leroy Rosenior MBE along with players and coaches from West Ham United Football Club. Year 5&6 both completed workshops and lessons and finished the day with a fantastic  assembly. They learned how to identify racist incidents and deal with them in a variety of circumstances. They listened to Leroy as he told them of incidents that had happened to him as a player. It was an extremely informative day and all the children learned some valuable lessons. A huge thank you to Leroy and the West Ham boys for visiting our school - it will be a day we will all remember for some time!

4v4 Basketball

Our Year 5&6 basketball team took part in the borough’s annual 4v4 basketball tournament today. We had 3 teams representing St Teresa’s. Each team played 3 games in the group stages and , amazingly, all teams won each of their group games which meant that they all qualified as group winners. St Teresa Hammers had to play a playoff game to get into the semi finals - which was a very close game against Valence. It ended in a draw and went to extra time, which Valence won by one basket. St Teresa Blues played a very competitive game against Grafton in their semi final, eventually losing by 2 baskets. And finally, St Teresa Sparks got all the way to the final where they played superbly, beating Grafton and claiming the gold medals! Well done to all our teams - especially those who represented St Teresa’s for the first time today!

Kingswood 2019

What a wonderful week we had at Kingswood this week! The weather may not have always been perfect but Year 6 completed each activity to the best of their abilities, full of determination and with a great attitude. I really enjoyed their company and it was lovely to see their personalities shine outside of the school environment. On the ferry home, a fellow passenger remarked to me that the children with me were lovely children and so well-behaved and mannerly. This was lovely to hear but also very true. Well done Year 6! A special thank you must go to Mrs Shirley and Mrs Clark for accompanying us this year! I hope you all enjoy the half term - here are the full set of photos from the week.

London Youth Games Basketball Silver Medalists!!

What a fantastic day we had at the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace this week! Having won the Barking & Dagenham basketball finals a few weeks ago, our Year 6 team got the opportunity to represent the borough at the London Youth Games against the winners of all the other 32 London boroughs. We had 3 group games against Islington, Kensington & Chelsea and Havering and we won all three (scoring 27 points in total and only conceding 6) which meant we qualified for the quarter finals as group winners. We played Bromley in the quarters, winning 12-6 and Harrow in the semifinals winning a great battle 8-4. This meant that we faced an excellent Richmond side in the final and, after a very tense 10 minutes and being level twice, we eventually lost 8-4. A huge achievement to come away with the silver medals. Congratulations to Patricia, Cecilia, Dionte, Nathan, Andre & Joshua! We are all very proud of you!

3v3 Basketball Finals

Our 3 basketball teams took part in the borough finals today at Eastbury Comprehensive. There were 12 teams taking part that had qualified from the first round and it was already a fantastic achievement to have qualified for these finals. Each team played multiple games today and had many great victories over some excellent teams and, after two fantastic wins in the semi finals, two of our teams battled it out in the final! The victory went to the St Teresa Blues in the end but what an amazing day it was for all of our teams! Barking & Dagenham Tennis Tournament

The Year 6 tennis team of Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis took part in the annual tennis competition at Riverside School today. They played against George Carey, Beam and Rush Green in the group stages and qualified as group winners. They faced Ripple Primary in the final and won 3 games to 1! This is the first time St Teresa’s has ever won a tennis tournament and it means that they will now go on to represent Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Redbridge Sports Centre at the end of June. Well done Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis!

On Thursday, our basketball teams took part in the qualifying round of the borough’s 3v3 basketball competition at Eastbury Comprehensive. We then played a very tight semi final against St Joseph’s Dagenham which we won 2-1. The final against William Bellamy was a very tense game with one try from our opponents proving to be the vital score. I was so impressed with our teamwork, communication and skill today and we were very pleased to come away with silver medals!

I was very impressed by all the children’s costumes today! Well done to Michael and Julia who won best costume after a class vote and to Sandra who won our Extreme Reading competition. Thank you to Mrs Attard also who came to read us a story in class.

The Year 6 girls’ team played their quarter final of the Monteagle Shield this afternoon against Gascoigne Primary. It was a fantastic, end-to-end game and the girls had to use every bit of skill, determination and teamwork that they could throughout the game. The final score was 7-6 to St Teresa’s and they now go on to the semi finals where they will face George Carey Primary. What an excellent achievement for this team to reach the final 4 in our first year of this competition!

Barking & Dagenham Girls’ Football League

Our Year 6 girls’ football team played Godwin Primary this evening at Goals. This was our first time entering the girls’ football league and was our first ever competitive match following our friendly game against Valence last week. Some of the Year 6 boys have been helping to train the girls at lunch times and I have been so impressed with how they have worked together and learned from each other.
