Kingswood 2019

Year 6 arrived safely at Kingswood on the Isle of Wight yesterday! We enjoyed activities such as Leap of Faith, Aeroball and Campfire when we arrived on our first day. Everyone had a great night’s sleep and woke up this morning ready for today’s fun activities.

First Aid Course - October 2019

This week, Year 6 had a visit from the London Ambulance Service and undertook a basic first aid course. They learned what steps to take in an emergency, how to dress a wound and what to do when someone is unconscious. Thank you to Chris from the London Ambulance Service for working with us today.

London Youth Games Basketball Silver Medalists!!

What a fantastic day we had at the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace this week! Having won the Barking & Dagenham basketball finals a few weeks ago, our Year 6 team got the opportunity to represent the borough at the London Youth Games against the winners of all the other 32 London boroughs. We had 3 group games against Islington, Kensington & Chelsea and Havering and we won all three (scoring 27 points in total and only conceding 6) which meant we qualified for the quarter finals as group winners. We played Bromley in the quarters, winning 12-6 and Harrow in the semifinals winning a great battle 8-4. This meant that we faced an excellent Richmond side in the final and, after a very tense 10 minutes and being level twice, we eventually lost 8-4. A huge achievement to come away with the silver medals. Congratulations to Patricia, Cecilia, Dionte, Nathan, Andre & Joshua! We are all very proud of you!

London Youth Games Tennis

Our Year 6 tennis team travelled to Redbridge Sports Centre today to take part in the London Youth Games against the winners of all the other 32 London boroughs. We played five matches against the champions of Bromley, Wandsworth, Greenwich, Sutton & Southwark. We won 2 and lost 3 matches with some fantastic battles along the way. A huge well done to Louis, Sebastian, Zia & Sophie who represented not just the school but the whole borough wonderfully!

Quadkids Athletics

The Year 5 & 6 athletics teams took part in the borough athletics tournament last week. 34 schools competed to become borough champions. The children had to take part in sprinting, throwing, jumping and long distance events. We had some fantastic individual performances and at the end of the day, the Year 6 team finished in 6th place overall. Well done everyone!

3v3 Basketball Finals

Our 3 basketball teams took part in the borough finals today at Eastbury Comprehensive. There were 12 teams taking part that had qualified from the first round and it was already a fantastic achievement to have qualified for these finals. Each team played multiple games today and had many great victories over some excellent teams and, after two fantastic wins in the semi finals, two of our teams battled it out in the final! The victory went to the St Teresa Blues in the end but what an amazing day it was for all of our teams! We will now go on the represent Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace on July 4th.

Barking & Dagenham Tennis Tournament

The Year 6 tennis team of Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis took part in the annual tennis competition at Riverside School today. They played against George Carey, Beam and Rush Green in the group stages and qualified as group winners. They faced Ripple Primary in the final and won 3 games to 1! This is the first time St Teresa’s has ever won a tennis tournament and it means that they will now go on to represent Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Redbridge Sports Centre at the end of June. Well done Sophie, Zia, Sebastian and Louis!

3v3 Basketball Qualifiers

On Thursday, our basketball teams took part in the qualifying round of the borough’s 3v3 basketball competition at Eastbury Comprehensive. We have been training at lunchtimes over the past few weeks and the hard work paid off as all 3 of our teams won their groups without losing any game and qualified for the finals next month. Well done to all the children involved!

Future Youth Zone

This week, the Junior classes had the wonderful opportunity to visit the new youth centre and try out some of the sports and classes they have there. Our children had a great afternoon and I think they will all want to visit again! Thank you to all our parent volunteers who accompanied us on our visit.

Tag Rubgy Tournament - March 2019

Our Year 6 tag rugby league team took part in the Barking and Dagenham tournament today at Barking Rugby club. We played 3 games in the group stage against Manor, Henry Green and Ripple and had 3 excellent wins which meant we finished the group stages in 1st place. We then played a very tight semi final against St Joseph’s Dagenham which we won 2-1. The final against William Bellamy was a very tense game with one try from our opponents proving to be the vital score. I was so impressed with our teamwork, communication and skill today and we were very pleased to come away with silver medals!

World Book Day

I was very impressed by all the children’s costumes today! Well done to Michael and Julia who won best costume after a class vote and to Sandra who won our Extreme Reading competition. Thank you to Mrs Attard also who came to read us a story in class.

Monteagle Shield- Quarter finals

The Year 6 girls’ team played their quarter final of the Monteagle Shield this afternoon against Gascoigne Primary. It was a fantastic, end-to-end game and the girls had to use every bit of skill, determination and teamwork that they could throughout the game. The final score was 7-6 to St Teresa’s and they now go on to the semi finals where they will face George Carey Primary. What an excellent achievement for this team to reach the final 4 in our first year of this competition!

The Museum of London - Docklands

Today, we travelled on the underground to the Museum of London, Docklands to look at their World War 2 exhibit and take part in a workshop. We’ve been looking a various aspects of WW2 in our English lessons so this was a great way of furthering our knowledge on the topic. Have a look at some photos of the day.

Sportshall Athletics - January 2019

This week, our Year 5 & 6 athletics team went to Sydney Russell Secondary school to compete in the annual  Sportshall Athletics competition. Eight schools were competing in a range of different events like sprinting, javelin, long jump and speed bounce. After a number of brilliant performances - especially in the javelin and the relays - we finished in 3rd place overall!

Monteagle Shield - girls 5-a-side football

The Year 6 girls’ football team played in Round 2 of the Monteagle Shield today against Marks Gate Primary at Goals Dagenham. It was a brilliant team performance and they won the game 7-1! Olivia was superb in goal; Patricia was rock solid in defence; Sandra, Sophie and Cecilia each scored great goals; and Esther and Elizabeth scores two goals each. Our next game will be against the winners of Roding Cannington and Gasgoigne in the quarter finals.

Merry Christmas!

The last few weeks have been very busy for Year 6 and the Christmas break is fully deserved! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your families and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

Barking & Dagenham Girls’ Football League

Our Year 6 girls’ football team played Godwin Primary this evening at Goals. This was our first time entering the girls’ football league and was our first ever competitive match following our friendly game against Valence last week. Some of the Year 6 boys have been helping to train the girls at lunch times and I have been so impressed with how they have worked together and learned from each other. The girls showed excellent teamwork, determination and communication skills throughout the match today and eventually won 9-0! What a result! Well done girls!

Basketball and football teams

It has been a very busy term for our Year 6 sports teams. Our basketball team recently took part in the borough 4v4 competition and came away with silver medals out of 22 teams. The boys football team have played 2 friendly matches against both Roding schools in preparation for the Barking & Dagenham Post Cup - winning one and drawing one. The girls team played their first ever match against Valence this week to prepare for their league game against Godwin next week and put in a great team performance.

Young Mathematician’s Awards

Last week, a group of Year 6s took part in the annual Young Mathematicians Awards at Explore Learning in Romford. They had to solve a variety of maths problems, using skills such as teamwork, communication, perseverance and resilience. They then had to present their findings to the judges at the end of the session. I was so impressed with each of them. Well done Eloise, Kevinas, Evelyn and Cecilia!

Kingswood 2018

What a wonderful week we have had at Kingswood this week! Year 6 have been a credit to our school and their families. We have had many instructors praise their excellent behaviour and fantastic personalities throughout the week. I could see a real improvement in their teamwork and communication skills as the week progressed. A special thank you must go to Miss Callander and Mrs Shirley for accompanying us on this trip and for making it a great one. I hope you all have a well-deserved rest over half term!

Kingswood 2018 - Wednesday

We have arrived safely at Kingswood and Year 6 have settled into their dorms! The weather is lovely and the children are looking forward to their first activity.

Year 6 End-of-year Performance

Year 6 put on a wonderful performance of Beauty and the Beast last week. The weeks of practice were truly worth it! I was so proud of the children as they sang, acted and danced magnificently. A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Hernandez for the pictures and video of the performance. Congratulations on a fantastic performance to end what has been a fantastic year! Well done Year 6!

Trampoline Park!

Year 6 had their fully-deserved treat day at Mayesbrook Park today. Following all their hard work throughout the year and especially after their wonderful performances in the production this week, they got to play games and use the equipment in the park then enjoy lunch in the sun. After lunch, we went to the trampoline park where all the children had a great afternoon. Have a look a some of the pictures!

London Youth Games 2018 - 3v3 Basketball

The London Youth Games is the largest underage sports competition in Europe and St Teresa’s Year 6 basketball team qualified for the finals at Crystal Palace for the second year in a row. Today, they had fantastic wins against Hackney and Kingston before a 1-basket defeat to a tough team from Croydon. That one basket proved crucial as it meant we finished in 9th place overall - just missing out on a place in the quarter finals. I was very proud of our team and throughout the day, they showed fantastic skill, determination and teamwork - and were wonderful ambassadors for our school! Well done Lukas, Gabriel, Verity, Julius, Miracle and Jermaine!

Quadkids Athletics

The Year 5 & 6 athletics team took part in the borough athletics tournament this week at Jim Peters Stadium. There were 30 schools from across Barking and Dagenham taking part. We had some excellent performances in the four disciplines- sprints, long jump, throwing and long distance. Both the Year 5 and Year 6 relay teams won their heat races in the afternoon session and when the results were announced, our Year 6 team claimed the 2nd fastest time overall and the silver relay trophy! Well done to all our athletes

Science Week

This week was science week at St Teresa’s. Year 5 & 6 learned about fossils with Miss Clark and then had the opportunity to create their own fossils using clay. They created some excellent masterpieces!

3v3 Basketball Champions 2018!

Two of our Year 5 & 6 basketball teams took part in the Barking & Dagenham finals this week. St Teresa’s were the only school to have more than one team qualify for the top 8 finals. Each team played 3 group games with the top teams in each group playing in the grand final for the gold medal. Amazingly, both our teams won their groups which meant they both played each other for the gold medal - St Teresa Blues V St  Teresa Sparks! The Sparks won an excellent final game which meant we left Barking Abbey with the gold and silver medals - an incredible achievement considering nearly 50 teams entered this competition! We now look forward to representing Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace next month.

Bikeability

13 children from Year 6 completed their cycling training over the past few days. They completed obstacle courses and safety training to pass their level 1 test on Monday then they went out on the roads with the instructors today to complete their level 2 training. All the children passed the level 2 training with flying colours! Well done Year 6!

Bouncy Castle Day

We all enjoyed our afternoon on the bouncy castles today. Year 6 helped the children from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 and then had their own turn. Have a look at some of the photos.

London Youth Games 2018!

Last Thursday, the Year 6 tag rugby team travelled to Crystal Palace to represent Barking and Dagenham at the London Youth Games. This was the first time our school had ever qualified for this tournament in tag rugby! We played against 9 other boroughs over the course of the day and beat teams representing Bexley, Harrow, Newham, Merton, Croydon and Enfield. Unfortunately, we were beaten by Houndslow, who went on to win the gold medal, in the penultimate round. We finished the day in 5th place overall out of the 32 boroughs competing which was an incredible result for our little school. Year 6 showed great communication, attitude and skill throughout the day and I was extremely proud of their achievement. Well done Tia, Verity, Katie, Chioma, Lukas, Julius, Gabriel, Damani, Jermaine and Saleem!

Tag Rugby Tournament

What a day it was for our Year 6 tag rugby team! We travelled to Robert Clack Secondary School to compete against all the other Primary schools in the borough. We made a great start to the competition and won our four group games against Hunters Hall and Manor Longbridge. This meant we qualified for the semi finals against Henry Green, which we won 4-1. The final against George Carey Primary was our toughest game of the day and it finished 1-1. Extra time and golden-try loomed and after what seemed like an eternity, we scored the winning try. I was so proud of the team’s attitude, hard work and skillful play and they were a credit to our school. We now look forward to representing Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace next week!

World Book Day

Year 6 had a fantastic day for our delayed World Book Day today! I was so impressed with the effort they all put into their costumes - they looked great. Well done to Lukas and Tia who won the ‘Best Costume’ awards and to Maa-Abena who won the ‘Extreme Reading’ photo competition.

West Ham football tournament

Well done to our Year 5 & 6 boys football team who competed at a qualifying event at Ormiston Park Academy today. They played 4 games - winning 2 and drawing 2 - only missing out on topping the group as winners on goal difference, which meant thy didn’t qualify for the final unfortunately. They played very well as a team and we can look forward to the next competition with confidence!

January 2018

The school athletics team took part in the borough’s Sportshall Athletics competition this week at Barking Abbey School. There was a range of track and field events including relays, javelin and long jump. Our Year 5s and 6s competed brilliantly throughout the morning and put in some great performances including a super victory (out of 25 teams) by Verity and Tia in the girls sprint relay! Well done to all the children involved.

Christmas 2017

The Year 6 elves have had a very busy week delivering Christmas cards to all the classes this week. During our Christmas dinner on Wednesday, they became DJs and entertained the school during the lunch hour! I would like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! Enjoy the break and come back ready to learn in 2018!

National Young Mathematicians Awards - November 2017

A few weeks ago, a group of Year 6 pupils went to Romford to compete in the opening round of the annual Young Mathematicians Awards. They had to complete a set of maths tasks using their mathematical, communication and teamwork skills. They did so well that they qualified for the regional finals against other schools from all over Essex! Today, they returned to Romford for that competition and I was so impressed with their work throughout the day. We will find out the results in a few days time. Well done Michael, Chinedu, Jennifer and Jessica!

4v4 Basketball Competition - November 2017

Barking and Dagenham’s first basketball competition of the year took place this week at Eastbury Comprehensive. St Teresa’s entered 3 teams and did lots of training and practice in the last few weeks. All our teams played superbly in their group games with two of the teams qualifying for the quarter finals as group winners. Both teams then went on to win their quarter finals and amazingly/unfortunately they were drawn to play against each other in the semi finals. They played out a great game with the ‘Hammers’ beating the ‘Blues’ by two baskets. This meant that the Hammers went through to the final while the Blues played for the bronze medal. In a brilliant final, St Teresa’s Hammers beat Northbury 4-0 to claim the gold medal while St Teresa’s Blues drew their game to share the bronze medal with Richard Alibon. Well done to all of our children!! To come away from a 23-team tournament with the gold and bronze medals is a huge achievement!

What a great week Year 6 had at Kingswood! They had the opportunity to try a wide range of activities and they each had a real sense of achievement once they reached the targets they set for themselves. I was very proud of their attitude throughout the week and many of the Kingswood staff remarked on their lovely manners. I would like to thank Miss Callendar and Mrs Shirley for accompanying us on the trip and for helping to make the trip a memorable one for the children. Enjoy looking at the photos of the rest of our week. Mr Kavanagh

We’ve been having a wonderful week at Kingswood so far! Year 6 have enjoyed a wide range of activities including 3G swing, side by side buggies and archery. The food has been delicious, our accommodation is really comfortable and we’ve even been really lucky with the weather! Take a look at some of the photos from the week so far...

Trampoline park trip!

Year 6 had a well-deserved treat day at the trampoline park today. They have worked extremely hard throughout the year and they should be very proud of all their achievements this year. They have been such wonderful ambassadors for our school. A big thank you to the Parent's Council for paying for Year 6 to visit the trampoline park. We had a great time!

July 2017: Junior Citizen Winners!

A few weeks ago, Year 6 attended the borough's Junior Citizen event where they learned about road safety, fire safety and electricity amongst other things. They were judged on their behaviour and their answers to questions throughout the day. 25 schools attended the Junior Citizen event and, for the second time in 3 years, St Teresa's were announced as the winners! Members of the police force presented our Year 6s with the trophy and goodie bags in a special assembly last week.

The Lion King

Last week, we held our end of year production. I was very proud of every single child's performance and they definitely rose to the occasion. A huge thank you to all the parents and staff who helped out with costumes and face painting. I thought the children looked fantastic on the night. Well done Year 6!

July 2017: London Youth Games Champions!!!

This week, the St Teresa's basketball team travelled to the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace to take part in the London Youth Games. All of the borough champions from across London were in attendance (31 in total) and we were excited but nervous about what the day had in store for us. Our group games were against the champions of Havering, Merton and Kensington & Chelsea and we won those three games 12-4, 12-4 and 16-2. This meant that we had qualified for the quarter finals and we knew the games would get even harder. Our quarter final was against Bexley, which we won 14-6. Our semi-final against Hounslow was an extremely tough game. It finished 12-12 after normal time which meant extra time. The rule was that whichever team scored first would be the winner. It was extremely tense and after a good number of passes between Jayden and Gabrielle, Sampson got the ball and scored to put us in the final! At this stage, all the children had given their all and were extremely tired but they only had a few minutes to recover before the final. Islington were our opponents for the final and we knew we had to be at our best to beat them. It was neck and neck throughout the game and the score was 10-10 with 3 minutes to go. A super pass from Matt to Sampson led to the final score of the game and it finished 14-10. St Teresa's were the champions of London! All 6 children played exceptionally throughout the day and their superb attitude and teamwork meant they came home with gold medals around their neck. Well done Jordan, Sampson, Olivia, Matt, Gabrielle and Jayden!! What an incredible achievement!

June 2017: Sporting Success!

Over the past number of weeks, we have had some great sporting successes. We won the Barking & Dagenham 3v3 basketball tournament (out of 43 teams!) and as a result, we will be representing Barking & Dagenham at the London Youth Games in Crystal Palace at the start of July. This is only the second time ever that we have won this competition so a huge congratulations to all the children involved! We also attended the Quad Kids Athletics tournament and we had some fantastic individual wins along with a relay triumph for the Year 6 team!

I hope everyone has an enjoyable and restful Easter break. Here are the answers to your Easter maths challenge booklets.

November 2016

Our Year 5 & 6 basketball team competed at the Barking and Dagenham 4v4 championships last week. Our 3 teams played their group games against various other schools with only the 4 group winners out of 20 teams advancing to the finals in January.

Amazingly, two of our teams won all their games and  progressed to the finals against all the other group winners in January. The children did themselves, their families and their school proud with their play and their attitude. We're now looking forward to the finals!
